Free Trade?

Terrorism is the most likely culprit to go down in history as the lance that killed freedom and free trade in America and the free world.

No it won’t be the terrorist acts themselves that do us in; people are much more resilient than that. What is destroying us are the panic stricken knee jerk reactions to the terrorist acts that incapacitates the very citizens that it purports to protect.

Not all of these debilitating actions arise from stupidity however; some are actually quite cleverly crafted and insidious in disguise. After all, any good politician worth his salt would ever let a good crisis go to waste.

Take a look at the new regulations imposed on importers of goods from overseas. Will these new bureaucratic forms that have to be filled in by four separate individuals, located at separate locations of the globe, make us safer from terrorism? Will the threat of the $10,000.00 fine for not providing for full compliance with these regulations in the 24 hour allotted time keep us safe? Get real, this regulation is supposed to stop terrorist from importing weapons into this country. Why in the hell would anyone want to send a crate full of weapons into a country that has in private ownership most of the weapons in the world already? And if a terrorist would want to send something to this country in a container, I’m quite sure that it would be an easy task for him, regulations notwithstanding.

Will these regulations hurt business in America? Yes it will hurt the small business owners as these imposed fees and time spent are absorbed by smaller amounts of products and will affect higher prices. Whereas the larger corporate giants import large amounts of product at a time and the cost of the fees are negligible.

. In a time when we should be making it easier for the small business man, we are instead adding more and more burdens to his attempts to make a living. So the question is; when are we ever going to be rid of the self-serving, government expanding, lobbyists loving crooks that we now have in congress. After all, all of the folks elected to congress can’t be that stupid, can they?
